World Earth Day Clothbag Initiative
Trading single-use plastic for something that lasts
Where it started
Telling people to stop using plastic bags rarely works on its own - they need something to use instead, right at the moment they'd otherwise reach for plastic. Most awareness campaigns stop at the message and skip the substitute.
What Nature Bodies did
For World Earth Day 2019, Nature Bodies ran its most extensively documented cloth bag distribution campaign to date, built around the same Recycle Mart initiative that trains a local women's self-help group to stitch cloth bags, soap cases, and poly-bag alternatives for a livelihood - recognised at the 8th Regional 3R Forum.
The initiative combined direct distribution with public engagement events across Bilaspur, treating the cloth bag not just as a product but as a visible, everyday symbol of the switch away from single-use plastic.
