Two thousand small chances for a tree to grow
Where it started
Formal plantation drives - digging a pit, placing a sapling, protecting it - are labour- and resource-intensive, and can't cover every roadside, verge, and waste patch in a growing city. Seed balls are a lower-cost way to give more places a chance at regrowth.
What Nature Bodies did
The method is deliberately simple: a 50/50 mix of clay and compost, rolled around a seed by hand, left to dry, then scattered where formal plantation isn't practical. Nature Bodies deployed 879 seed balls in 2019 and a further 1,246 in 2020 - over 2,000 in total - along a 2.9-kilometre stretch from Tarbahar Square to Agrasen Square, and around Marimai Temple Pond.
It's unglamorous, repeatable work, and it scales in a way a plantation drive with saplings and volunteers on a single day cannot.
